Traffic
Lines, Inc. |
History
Traffic Lines, Inc. is
one of the country's oldest and largest road marking companies.
Raymond Sergeant started Traffic Lines in 1951, after having done
a few road painting jobs on his own. Using a $5000 bank loan,
Raymond bought a small fleet of hand-pushed sprayers and a few
trucks. At the time, he was a Red Bank policeman, but he gave up
his law enforcement career in 1963 because his business had grown
so rapidly. The business of painting parking lots rapidly came to
include painting highways, airport runways, etc... Soon after,
Traffic Lines grew large enough to stretch its lines into five
other states.
Mark Sergeant, Raymond's
son, was named President when Raymond retired in 2006. Mark
Sergeant began his career at Traffic Lines, Inc. as a crewmember
learning the basics of the industry. He was then promoted to the
position of Journeyman and then to Foreman. These positions
required the operating and maintaining of the pavement marking
equipment as well as the supervision of the various crewmembers.
Mark then assumed the Operations Manager position and Chief
Estimating role. He was responsible for bidding on work and
scheduling it accordingly. He then became Vice President and was
key in expanding the growth of the company. Mark has given
Traffic Lines an edge in the industry by creating and building
equipment that specifically caters to the needs of road marking
vehicles. He has even patented machinery for cutting the divots
into which the lane marking reflectors are epoxied. His invention
increased production by over 50%. Having over 30 years experience
in this industry, Mark is consulted by both equipment and
material manufacturers who rely on his expertise to help them in
their processes.

As a team, the Sergeants
have brought Traffic Lines into the new millennium. And now Mark
Sergeant will continue his father's vision of growth for the
company. The company now boasts a fleet of more than 60 vehicles,
all of them fitted with special equipment for laying down various
kinds of road markers. Traffic Lines has over 100 employees, and
the company has large contract work in several states. Traffic
Lines looks forward to a bright and reflective future.
